Q: Colman, what are your must-dos when it comes to setting the right vibe at social gatherings?
Colman: Getting the lighting and music right are key to a great party. It's also essential to have plenty of food and drink available for your guests. Last but not least—flowers must be abundant. It needs to feel indulgent!
Q: Jess, how do you establish a spirited mood at your get-togethers?
Jess: I always set a dress code. Dressing up is so fun and I feel the opportunities to do so are few and far between these days. At my Emmys viewing party on Monday, my guests and I will be dressed in our finest old Hollywood glam looks—it doesn’t get better than that!
Q: Colman, what's your favorite way to engage your guests?
Colman: I introduce everyone at the party and tell the group a special something about each guest. From there, I leave it to them.
Q: Jess, what's your "host with the most" entertaining trick?
Jess: For an awards show viewing party, you have to play a game. There are so many variations—you can do trivia, you can put money in a pot and do a Vegas-style pool. We’re gonna play Emmy’s bingo—it’s a great way for guests to feel engaged with both each other and the program.
Q: Colman, if you could leave your guests with one feeling or memory from an occasion you’ve hosted, what is it and why?
Colman: That I made them feel loved. I love caring for people and want them to feel that there was nothing not tended to—lighting music, food, drink, cocktail, service, etc. I hope my guests laughed hard and made new friends.
